(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are investigating the death of a bicyclist. Officers say a man was hit by a car while riding on Patton Avenue near the I-240 interchange late Friday night. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene for the investigation. There's no word if any charges were filed.

Asheville Reparations Manager Leaving

(Asheville, NC) -- The reparations project manager in Asheville is expected to change soon. WLOS-TV reports the president of TEQuity is accepting a new job, so the organization is requesting that the contract be assigned elsewhere. The city council is expected to discuss a new potential contract this week.

(Asheville, NC) -- Another Code Purple situation is underway in the mountains. Extra alerts are out as homeless shelters remain open as cold temperatures hit the mountains. Several dozen extra cots are set up at places like the Veterans Restoration Quarters and the Transformation Village in Asheville.

Charlotte Apartment Fire Considered Suspicious

(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte apartment fire is considered suspicious. Crews responded to put out flames at the two-story building on Beacon Ridge Road overnight Saturday. No one was hurt. The fire department says it appears the blaze was set on purpose.

Juvenile Hurt In Salisbury Shooting

(Salisbury, NC) -- Officers are investigating a double shooting in Salisbury. A 14-year-old was one of two people injured in a shooting on Messner Street early Sunday morning. A 20-year-old was also hurt. Investigators are continuing to search for the suspects in the case.

Huntersville Development Underway

(Huntersville, NC) -- A mixed-use project is underway in Huntersville. The Charlotte Business Journal reports developers just broke ground last week for a project in downtown that's considered the city's largest investment. The group is placing 60-million-dollars into a project on Gilead Road that includes commercial and residential space. More than 130 apartments and over a dozen townhomes are planned.

Officer Injured In Shelby Shooting

(Shelby, NC) -- The SBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Shelby. WSOC-TV reports an officer opened fire on a man early Sunday that refused to put a gun down. He was reportedly on the second floor of a Days Inn hotel on Dixon Boulevard. The officer is on administrative leave.

Novant Health Adding Child Care Units

(Charlotte, NC) -- Novant Health is expanding child care. The health foundation and donors attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a new neonatal intensive care unit at the Hemby Children's Hospital last Thursday. The expansion will provide a dozen new bay units for child care at the location.

Shootout At Bon Fire Party Kills One, Wounds Five Others

(Halifax County, NC) -- Authorities in Halifax County are still searching for suspects in connection with a shooting at a large bon fire early Sunday morning. Investigators say hundreds of people were gathered for the outdoor event at the Double D Ranch on Green Acres Road, when suddenly multiple gunshots were fired. At least six people were wounded, including 24-year old Cierra Webb of Roanoke Rapids, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim's injuries were not considered to be life threatening. Witnesses say the shooting stemmed from an argument between two groups of women.

Several People Hospitalized With Stab Wounds Following Fight On Glenwood Avenue

(Raleigh, NC) -- Police in Raleigh have made no arrests in a weekend stabbing incident, that resulted in several people being hospitalized with serious injuries. It happened around 2:am Sunday along the 100-block of Glenwood Avenue. Officers responded to a call about a fight and arrived to find multiple individuals suffering from knife wounds. The exact number of people who were hurt was not released. Investigators released no further information about the circumstances that led to the violent incident.

Greenville To Do Away With Red Light Safety Camera Program This Week

(Greenville, NC) -- Beginning this week, the City of Greenville will discontinue its Red Light Safety Camera Program. The move comes after a state appeals court recently ruled that the video technology, which captures motorists who run red lights, is unconstitutional. The ruling further stated that not enough revenue generated by citations went to the local school district. In a written statement, the City of Greenville said the cameras will be deactivated and no citations will be issued after November 15th.

UNC Hospitals Chosen To Specialize In Treatment Of Infectious Diseases

(Raleigh, NC) -- UNC Hospitals have been selected by the federal government, as one of 13-health care facilities which will function as Regional Emerging Pathogen Treatment Centers. The hospital system will specialize in treating patients with highly infectious diseases, such as COVID, Monkeypox and the Ebola virus. The designation, announced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, also comes with a 3-million dollar grant. The Center will be run by Dr. William Fischer and Dr. David Wohl.

Tar Heels Win Coastal Division Championship With Victory Over Wake Forest

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- The North Carolina Tar Heels secured its place in the ACC title game Saturday night, with a 36-34 win over Wake Forest. The victory also made Carolina the Coastal Division Champions of the ACC. The play of the game came when Cam Ron Kelly intercepted a pass from the Demon Deacons Sam Hartman, to set up the winning field goal from Noah Burdette with 2:12 remaining in regulation. The Tar Heels will be back home in Chapel Hill Saturday to take on Georgia Tech.

NC One of Several States Having "High" Flu Rates

(Winston-Salem, NC) -- Federal officials say North Carolina is one of the states having "very high" rates of flu activity. Data for region 4 - which includes the Triad Piedmont area - show an increase in emergency room visits that have only continued to increase since the start of October. Symptoms of both the flu and COVID-19 are similar, so officials say testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis.

Brace for Much Colder Weather Monday

(High Point, NC) -- Weather officials say Monday's temperatures will be about 20 degrees colder than they were over the weekend. The National Weather Service says clear skies overnight will have allowed temperatures to plummet Monday morning with many waking up in the mid to upper 20s. Cloud cover is expected to increase through the day on Monday and despite the sunshine, the area will only have highs in the 40s.

Greensboro Man Dies in Winston-Salem Shooting

(Greensboro, NC) -- Greensboro police are investigating a shooting Friday night in which a man died. Officers responded to the area of South Pearson Street and Ross Avenue around 8:30 Friday night. Nicholas Lamont Martin later died from his gunshot wounds. Police say they don't have any suspect information right now and that their investigation is ongoing.

Armed Robbery Suspect at-Large

(Greensboro, PA) -- Greensboro Police are looking for a man who robbed a convenience store Saturday afternoon. The Super-S-Mart in the 26-hundred block of East Bessemer Street was held up a little after 5:00 p.m. No one was injured.

City Manager Hosts Listening Session

(Greensboro,, PA) -- Greensboro City Manager Tai Jaiyeoba will host his second round of public-participation discussions beginning this week. The public can attend any "Talk with Tai: City Manager Listening Session" to ask questions and engage with the city manager about a variety of topics. The first meeting this week is at 6 p.m. Monday at the Lewis Recreation Center. The second one will be on Wednesday at the McGirt-Horton Library - also at 6:00 p.m.
