The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program will be hosting the 2nd Annual "Walk a Mile In Her Shoes" Event. The event will be held in Cherokee NC on April 19th with a walk start time of 11:30am. Participants can start picking up their heels and t-shirts at 10:30am. The walk will start at the intersection by the Bear Zoo on Highway 441 and go through downtown Cherokee, participants will turn a right at the KFC onto Tsali Blvd and end at the Cherokee Fair Grounds. Male participants will wear high heel shoes during the walk. The event is to raise awareness and show support as a community for victims of sexualized violence, as well as to show that sexualized violence is not just a women’s issue. Victims can be mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, girlfriends, co-workers, or friends; it is a way men can show their support in a very entertaining and light hearted way for a very serious matter. Interested participants will need to contact the EBCI Domestic Violence program at 828 554 6830 and provide their t-shirt size; male participants will also need to provide their shoe size. Registration for male participants will end March 29th, to allow the program time to order and receive the high heels.
