It's a worried world as 2012 comes to a close in 3 weeks. No doubt. While I have every confidence the world will turn and the sun will rise on Dec 21st, or on whatever day The Mayan Calendar prophesied doom, I must say, world events do give pause. In the Middle East there is the centuries old conflict renewed between Israel and The Palestinians. In Egypt, its an Arab Spring encore with the throngs now dissatisfied with their new leader, protesting what amounts to a dictatorship all over again. Libya recently erupted in flames, literally. In Syria, there is the unspeakable horror of children being wiped out by their government. Turkey, long a western ally in that part of the world, has requested Patriot Missle batteries to fight off attack. In Iraq, where US forces toiled for nearly a decade, Sunni vs Shiite violence shows signs of renewal. In Afghanistan, violence is on the uptick as US soldiers cant tell friend from foe within the ranks theyre supposed to train. Nuclear power Pakistan may have very well harbored Osama Bin Laden, and very well may be harboring militant cells in its tribal regions. Iran insists on developing a nuclear program which it insists is for peaceful means. It's a long list of worries and the calendar does indeed read December 2012. I'm worried about people in harms way and people who are suffering, but I'm not worried it's the end of the world. I have too much faith in mankind and nature, besides. Things have a way of working out. Let's hope they do.
