Packages, Boxes and Bags ! That's what The Grinch said. Specifically, he uttered the phrase in the Dr Seuss classic when the creature who lives atop Mt Crumpet was amazed Christmas had arrived despite his best efforts to scratch it off the calendar. For purists, The Grinch said, "It came without ribbons, it came without tags, it came without packages, boxes or bags". I'm no scrooge, but lets talk about packages now that the holiday season is at hand. Have you tried to open one lately ? Any package. Cereal, batteries, a new cell phone ? Is it just me or do you need a degree in mechanical engineering to open a "plastic pak" without spilling the contents all over the floor ? I have the equivalent of a full bowl of Cheerios somewhere under my refrigerator. The glue used to hold the seams together must be NASA approved. If my dental crowns were affixed with such certainty I'd never have to visit a dentist again. The greatest peril I've discovered is when you finally opt for a kitchen knife to cut your way to your new purchase all the faster. You could end up at Mission Hospital requiring stitches if you're not careful. When did this occur ? When did the packaging people decide to use barnacle glue and/or melt the plastic wrappers into a seamless shroud ? Was there a rash of poorly packaged products that hit the market that somehow I missed ? Was this perhaps the cause ? Was there some new glue innovation in the world of science in the past 2 years ? Can you buy this stuff ? I'm thinking it would make good old fashioned Bondo, Epoxy Glue and Krazy Glue obsolete in one fell swoop. Christmas morning you might want to wake the kids up at 4am so they can have their toys ready for play by noon. Watch your fingers and best of luck.
