30 years ago … Seems like yesterday.  As Hunter Thompson once said, "The good ol days for sure, we stomped on the terra". Lucky to be alive, truth be known. Wasn't that bad really, but when you're young you have no concept of mortality. Booked passage to see the Grateful Dead perform their summer tour up and down the east coast. This was 1983, and I proceeded to catch most tours straight through till spring of 86.  At this show in Columbia Md, roughly equidistant from Baltimore and DC, I remember the rain, buckets of rain, and lightning hitting the stage. In fact you can hear it at  about 11:51 on the Youtube audio. It's formless whacked music so you probably wont make it 11 minutes deep. Crazy days for sure. Not as many college kids in those days on the circuit, the whole travelling circus thing was still largely under the asphalt. There were converted schoolbuses of so called tour rats .. people who lived on the road and thought Garcia was God. He was on "The Nod", not God, the freaks must have had their consonants confused. The Hells Angels were there in numbers, as were the police. Never had a serious problem, people were respectful. The only way to describe the carefree freedom and fun is to make the simple remark that there was no user guide to the experience - None, Zero, Zilch, Nada. Again, its hard to believe it was 30 years ago. It was ironically, an innocent time.
