It’s the final day of Winter ! By most accounts, it was a mild winter for Asheville and western North Carolina. We had warm weather that lingered deep into the fall, providing even a couple of 70 degree days either side of Thanksgiving and into December. It wasn’t until February that we really started to get some cold air and snow at high elevation, with just one or two dustings on the ground in Asheville. That’s fine by me. Just a touch of snow for Christmas is nice, but I have little or no use for winter weather beyond that. I grew up with snow all my life, where it is measured each year in feet, not inches. By the time you get into your 40's you just tire of the inconvenience, and come to welcome Spring with open arms .. earlier and earlier every year !  Im not sure if this is a rumor or not, but the Vernal Equinox (the first day of spring) is supposedly the only day of the year when this amazing feat is possible, although I don’t know why standing an egg on its end would not also be possible on the Autumnal Equinox… Sept 21st or thereabouts, when the sun is again on the equator:
