If you havent taken the ride from Weaverville NC on up to The Blue Ridge Parkway at Bull Gap by way of Ox Creek Road, here's your chance. It’s a nice ride just 4 or 5 miles from town. My house sits at about 2500 feet, and when Im up on the ridge, Ive gained almost 1000 feet elevation. If you have a dashboard thermometer in your car you can watch it lose a few degrees as you climb. Theres an information marker at one of the scenic overlooks at Bull Gap which explains it was one of the last areas east of the Mississippi to harbor bison long ago. To the north its about 20 miles (once the road is repaired) up to Mt Mitchell, the highest point east of the Mississippi at almost 6700 feet. To the south it’s a scenic shortcut back to Asheville.
