Apparently, the President's plan to reduce the deficit by raising taxes on the rich is so fantastic that the Republican Minority Leader in the US Senate suggested the legislature vote on it right away.
Like - today.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) offered President Obama's plan as an amendment to the Russian trade bill that was already being considered.
Take a look at McConnell's brief remarks:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) jumped at the opportunity to pass the proposal.
Oh wait...
No. No he didn't.
According to The Hill:
Reid, however, objected to McConnell’s suggestion, saying the Russian trade bill, H.R. 6156, is about job creation, not political stunts from Republicans.
“The purpose of this bill is to protect American jobs,” Reid said. “Are we going to get serious here and legislate or is this more of the political stunts that the Republican leader is going to pull today?”
And while Sen. McConnell said he's willing to offer stand-alone vote on the president's plan (instead of offering it as an amendment to another proposal), it does not appear the Democrats in the US Senate are interested in voting on the President's plan.
It almost makes you wonder why.
