Last night WLOS-TV hosted a Town Hall discussion about gun control. I encourage you take the time to watch it here:
Among the moments that stood out to me...
An idea by Asheville City Councilman Cecil Bothwell to require gunowners to carry liability insurance. There weren't really a lot details about how that would work, what insurance companies would benefit, who would oversee the requirement, and what would be the penalty of non-compliance?
Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan gave a great analysis of the limitations of the original assault weapons ban and how it focused primarily on cosmetic features.
There was a question from an audience member named Timothy Sadler who wondered if any of the panelists could see a future where the guns don't have to be lethal. It reminded me of the comment from the former US Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders about making "safer guns" and "safer bullets."
